Proper use of engine oil is necessary to keep your car’s engine healthy and running well. Follow this easy step-by-step guide on how to use engine oil:
1. Read Owner‘s Manual
Learn the proper type, grade, and quantity of oil your engine needs (e.g., 5W-30 synthetic).
Also refer to the recommended oil change intervals.
2. Check Engine Oil Level
You should check oil levels frequently, particularly before a long trip.
How to Check:
Park on flat ground and turn off the engine.
Wait 5–10 minutes for the oil to settle down.
Open the hood and locate the dipstick.
Pull it out, clean it, reinsert it all the way, then pull it out again.
Check the level—it should be between the “MIN“ and “MAX“ marks.
3. Add Engine Oil (if necessary)
If the level is low:
How to Add:
Find the oil filler cap at the top of the engine.
Loosen it and slowly pour oil through a funnel.
Add small quantities, recheck the dipstick so you don’t overfill.
Put the cap back on and hand-tighten.
4. Change Engine OilPeriodically:
Changing your oil includes:
Draining the old oil
Replaced the oil filter
Refilling with new oil
If you are not sure doing it yourself, let a professional mechanic do it.
Recommended Interval:
Every 5,000–10,000 km (or 3,000–6,000 miles)
Or as indicated in your owner‘s manual
