Cement
The role of oils in the cement industry is critical due to the fact that they help in performing different functions which in turn facilitate operational effectiveness and/or long lifetime of the equipment. The lubricating oils for the machines or other equipment consist of crushers, mills, kilns and conveyors among others hence assisting in minimizing on friction and wear leading to longer duration operation. In presses and actuators, hydraulic oils are indispensable for ensuring their hydraulics operate smoothly.
Pour point depressants or cloud point modifiers are the two methods used to lower the highest temperature at which an oil will flow or pour. Oil deaerator pumps or robbers reduce the amount of entrained gas by releasing the pressure. An oil spill dispersant is used to remove or lessen concentrations of oil in a body of water.
Cement properties can be improved to enhance workability and durability using oil-based additives. On some occasions, waste oil is burned in cement kilns as a substitute for other forms of fuel in order to conserve energy and prevent pollution. Furthermore, there are oil-based dust suppressants which help in curtailing dust at the time of handling raw materials as well as grinding of clinker making the air clean and reducing risks related to health.
